Tomosynthesis is a new 3D technology of breast depiction with higher diagnostic accuracy in the duagnosis of breast disease contrary to the conventional mammography, as it has the potential to distinguish normal tissue from the problem, making it easier to detect any suspicious lesions, even the small sized ones.
Elastography is a form of ultrasound depiction based on the stiffness or the hardness of the tissue. It provides an image similar to the medical palpation of each mass, giving us useful information of the “hardness” of the tissues. This information is used in combination with other examinations (mammography, ultrasound), where necessary, leading us to a reliable diagnosis.
The most advanced and ultrasound examination that is conducted using modern ultrasound machines equipped with powerful computers and specific multi-crystal heads. The examination is fully automated without an operator being present and provides the most reliable ultrasound examination in detecting “hard to spot” minor lesions.
Ultrasound, or breast ultrasound, is an imaging method of the breast using ultrasonic waves. The ultrasound is a complementary breast examination and can distinguish whether an abnormality or tumor is solid or cystic, benign or malignant. It is a complement to Mammography where needed.
Biopsy is the examination under the microscope and the histological identification of a small portion of tissue from the area that a “suspicious” lesion is detected. So far, this process only took place through a surgical procedure. Today, the possibility of stereotactic biopsy reduces to a minimum any unnecessary surgical biopsies.
A small sample of tissue is extracted from the breast using a special biopsy needle. The ultrasound device is used to identify the area of the breast that will need to be studied and to guide the biopsy needle in the proper position.
The osteoporosis test or bone density test or bone mass measurement test is a quick method of estimating your bone density. The machine calculates the amount of bone in the hip, spine and - sometimes - in other bones. The result of a bone density test will help your doctor draw conclusions and suggest ways to protect your bones from osteoporosis.
It is imperative that a clinical examination is conducted annually by a breast specialist. This clinical examination does not replace a mammogram but acts as a complementary exam in detecting lesions and is classified as one of the most important routine exams that every woman should have.
A tiny puncture of the thyroid nodule using a Fine Needle Aspiration(FNA) is a well-established, diagnostic examination of high precision that is usually the first step in the evaluation of the thyroid nodule. Always with the guidance of ultrasounds, the needle extracts some cells from the nodule and the Cytologist can give reliable results in just a few days, helping us to make an early diagnosis.
The examination includes: i. Checking patient’s history, ii. Palpation of the thyroid, iii. Examining thyroid hormones (FT4, FT3, TSH, thyroid antibodies ) in blood tests results.
The specialist doctors in our Center, with a long, extensive training and experience in breast and thyroid diseases, can give a second opinion in your problems. They will examine your test results and raise a discussion of your case in the Multidisciplinary Meeting of our Center in order to give you an early advice and guidance.
